Many parameters of sports wood flooring contain the secrets of its performance.
The first is the thickness of the panel. The common 20mm thickness is not set at random. Thicker panels can provide stronger load-bearing capacity. Under high-intensity actions such as frequent jumping and sudden stops by athletes, it is not easy to deform, ensuring the stability and durability of the floor. At the same time, the appropriate thickness also has a positive effect on the elasticity and shock absorption performance of the floor, which helps to absorb impact and protect athletes’ joints.
The friction coefficient is a key parameter, and the range is controlled between 0.4 and 0.7. This range is obtained after a lot of practice and scientific research. The lower limit of 0.4 ensures that the floor is not too smooth, so that athletes can get enough friction when moving quickly and turning to prevent slipping; the upper limit of 0.7 ensures that the floor is not too astringent, so that athletes can move flexibly without affecting the smoothness and speed of the movement, and achieve a perfect balance between safety and sports performance.
The impact absorption parameter is equally important. Generally, the impact absorption of sports wooden flooring is required to reach 30% – 50%, which means that the floor can absorb 30% – 50% of the impact force generated by the athlete when jumping and landing. For example, in a basketball game, the athlete jumps high and then lands heavily. The good impact absorption performance of the floor can greatly reduce the pressure on the knees, ankles and other joints, and reduce the risk of injury.
The ball rebound rate is also a key point to measure the performance of sports wooden flooring. Taking the basketball court as an example, more than 90% of the ball rebound ability ensures that the rebound height and speed of the basketball on the floor meet the competition standards. This allows athletes to pass, dribble, and shoot according to the familiar ball properties, which improves the competitiveness and viewing of the game. In addition, the moisture content of the floor is also a parameter that cannot be ignored. It needs to match the local equilibrium moisture content to prevent the floor from mold and deformation due to too high moisture content, or cracking due to too low moisture content, to ensure the long-term and stable use of the floor.
